It was another glorious and sunny May day for footy where we headed out to Pascoe Vale to play a team that had not had a win for the season. Captain for the Day was Ben Wilson who lead the boys admirably as we came home to win our 5th game in a row for the season. The Panthers fought hard all day and made it tough at times but the Eagles were too fast and too strong in the end. Plenty of opportunities were given to players to play in new positions and in new roles. Corey Johns had a good hit out in the ruck (and kicked a goal) while players who usually played up forward played down back and backline players played up forward. Nonetheless the message was still the same from the coach – attack the ball strong and with two hands, contest hard and strong and back up your team mates at all costs. Trent Thomson showed good form at Centre half forward while Billy Paraaskevas was good down back. Aaron Neeumeister was effective all day while Angus Walker and Zac Dicianni provided plenty of drive and run. Liam McBride and Dion Crifo lead by example all around the ground and players such as Jesse Borg, Cody Broom and Tim Matson are growing more confident as the season goes on.
We took third place on the ladder by the end of the round and we need to cement this position next week when we play Marby Park at home. This will be a tough game and we will need to be on our game next week to ensure we give ourselves a good look at the second half of the season.
Thanks to Joshua Saccuzzo and Sam Candotti who helped out today in assistant roles and to Belinda (Corey’s mum) for giving the water carrier role a go. To other parents who stepped in at the last minute, it is much appreciated.
