Airport West 12.15.87 def Roxburgh Park 7.4.46

The Under 14 boys brought home their first win of the season by defeating Roxburgh Park by 41 points.  The game started at a fast pace with Airport West scoring 4 goals early in the opening quarter and providing solid defence to keep the opposition scoreless.  The next three quarters settled into a more even game with both teams finding momentum at different stages.  Tom Muscat and Liam McBride won the ball  around the ground providing terrific run and carry.  Frankie Galtieri, Ben Wilson, Billy Paraskevis and Jack Deoki provided great in and under play forcing the ball forward providing opportunities for the forward line to find space and hit the scoreboard. We held a good lead going in to half time and the coaching panel was looking for that lead to be extended.  Roxburgh Park had different ideas and they managed to find the loose ball and  penetrate inside 50 more, forcing the Airport West boys to lift a cog by running the ball and hitting targets with handballs and kicks.  The forward line were presenting at every opportunity shutting out any hope of the opposition forcing a comeback.   Airport West scoring shots doubled Roxburgh Park’s, a good indication of our dominance overall on the day.

Congratulations to Aaron Neumeister on his 50th game, celebrated with a late goal in the last quarter.  Will Andrews played his 50th game today and the boys will recognise this achievement at the next home and away game.

Next week we play Westmeadows, away and this should be a good battle with the Tigers elevated to Division 2 this year.

Thanks to the boys who assisted today – Corey Johns (Water) and Zach Soulis and Cody Reardon (Boundary)
