It has been a long time coming but we finally kicked off the season and in no better way than under lights,  the first time for many of the kids.

The coach was quite nervous turning up to the ground, as the last time the kids played Hillside at Hillside, they outscored us by over 50 points.

The boys were ready for the challenge and were pumped by the time the siren sounded.

The focus was on tackling hard, protecting the ball carrier, maintaining structure and playing the corridor as Hillside is a very wide ground.

The boys did this perfectly in the first half and opened up a 42 point lead at half time.

The second half mirrored the first and Airport West eventually won 82 – 19.

The midfield rotations worked well and they ran tirelessly to deliver the ball into the forward line and then run back and help out in defence.

The forward pressure was incredible and virtually everytime the ball went into the forward line, Airport West scored.

The defence was great and held Hillside goal less for the first half. On the rebound the boys were able to switch the play and run and carry through the midfield to set up many scoring opportunities.

The boys played to structure and their execution in ball movement was of a high standard.

The boys also shared the goal kicking with 9 different goal kickers which was a sensational effort.

Great team work boys. Looking forward to the next game on Sunday.
