Hillside 5.2-32 def Airport West 0.0-0

It was our first game for the season and it was an exciting start for the boys being on a Friday night under lights at Hillside!  It was the first proper game for a number of our boys, 6 to be exact. With our form being very good in the practice matches we were well prepared and expecting big things.

The boys gathered in the rooms before the game and we handed out all the jumpers with most getting their favourite number, if not their second favourite. After a short speech welcoming all the new players and their parents to the club and naming our Captain for the night, which was Nikolas Ellul, the boys ran out behind their Captain full of confidence.

The game started and our Ruckman Deon Uren, got the first tap and did a mighty job in the ruck all game with a bit of help from Ethan Walker and Liam Sikora.

Our on ballers Lachlan Hamilton and Cooper McMullin tried hard all game but Hillside was up to the challenge and jumped away to an early lead.

Dean Mastranico followed a team instruction to play on if nobody was on the mark which he did very well but got tackled just as he was about to kick it, well done Dean !

I was very impressed with our new boys, Darcy Broom with a great chase and tackle in the first quarter and a good mark in the third. Ben Noakes also took a great mark in the third. Harrison Rogers made a mighty tackle and scored a free kick in the last. Two other new boys Nikolas Ellul and Stefan Sabatino were great too running all game long.

The first three quarters we looked a bit slow compared to Hillside who made the most of their chances in the forward line. The last quarter was our best with a good effort by all the team. Hillside were too good and won fairly easy in the end.

Hopefully all the boys enjoyed the night. Thanks to all the parents who helped out. As mentioned after the game all parents are encouraged to help out on game days and at the training sessions. This is very much a family club and I know the boys love it when their parents get involved so please see Ben or myself if you can help. It will make our job a lot easier !
