Airport West 6.6.42 def by Maribyrnong Park 16.13.109

Our winning run was put to an end by a very strong and fast opponent in Maribrnong Park.  After five wins in a row we needed to beat Marby to cement a top 2 spot.  The first quarter was an even affair on the scoreboard with some errant kicking by the opposition keeping us in the game.  The message from Ange at the breaks was to man up when we don’t have the ball, protect the ball at all costs and run when we have the ball.  The second quarter saw Marby kick away but not enough to be out of reach.  The boys were still confident that we could get back to the basics and stay in the contest.  However the opposition proved to be too strong around the ground as they found space and kicked away in the second half to beat Airport West by over ten goals.  With Moonee Valley defeating ladder leaders Hadfield, the competition for the top spots opens up and we really have to work hard on the training track and bring our A game on Sunday when we play Hadfield at home. We certainly need to avenge our round 1 smashing and the boys will be keen to measure their improvement.
