Airport West 16.12-108 def Westmeadows 0.0-0

Yet another fantastic team effort from the U10 Div 2 team and, with 11 individual goal scorers, the boys again proved that they play a team brand of footy.

In a game of many highlights, the absolute standout was Jacob Platt kicking his first ever goal in footy. Jacob took a mark early in the game and couldn’t quite manage to convert, however his tireless persistence put him in a position late in the quarter to earn a free – and leaning back on it, Jacob let the ball rip and players and spectators alike went up as one when it sailed straight over the goal umpire’s head! It was due reward for dedication to the game, both at training and on game day.

Captains for the day were Isaac Cullen and Peter Taxidis. Isaac had another solid game in the ruck – his clever tap work can be relied upon to put the ball down the throat of our on-ballers. Peter played a great captain’s game; through hard work he placed himself in a position to snag a goal (just missing!) and his defensive pressure helped our quicks look good and made life miserable for the opposition.

Ryan Martin stood up and stood out. His four goals came from clever intercepts, textbook baulks, long kicking and sheer hard work. Liam Cox played his best game of the year so far; his strong pack mark was the games best and he went back and kicked truly. Later in the game, he had another chance to kick a goal, but showing footy smarts he made it certain by passing to Flynn Gentile, who had made his way into a better position. Flynn racked up possessions all day – he had the most centre clearances on the ground and his second efforts were an example for the rest of the team.

I could say plenty about Dante Munoz’ game, but what clearly remains in my mind is – Dante wins contests. I really need 3D glasses when I watch him play, for he is dependable, determined and dangerous.

Our 11 goal kickers for the day were:
Ryan Martin (4), Flynn Gentile (2), Luke Scicchitano (2), Dante Munoz , Ty Macumber (Awesome first goal for the season, well done Ty!), Liam Cox , Marcus Kanavas , Carlos Intrepido , Noah Candotti , Jacob Platt , Tommy Macumber

Congratulations boys on making it three from three – let’s build on our successful start to the season and give it 100% next week against Mooney Valley. Go Eagles!
