Round 3 – Under 10 Division 6 Match Report

Oak Park 11.10 – 76 def Airport West 0.0 – 0

After a great first win the week before the boys trained the best they have all year. The Captain for the day was Christian Davies whose birthday is next Friday. Happy birthday Christian !

When the boys lined up in their positions, Oak Parks Ruckman, who wouldn’t have looked out of place in the under 16`s got the first tap and dominated the first quarter, marking, tackling and kicking goals. To our credit we didn’t give up. We put our own ruckmen Deon Uren and Liam Sakora both on him and they did a great job harassing him. He was getting a bit frustrated and started pushing and shoving Deon, but to Deon’s credit he didn’t take a backward step and stuck on his man.

This was our best quarter with Oak Park only scoring 1 point. Max Atkinson, Nikolas Ellul, Connor Mundy and Ethan Stephenson did some good things in the second and third quarters.

Our usual runners, Darcy Broom, Stefan Sabitino and Cooper McMullin again ran all game long. Brodie Potts laid a great tackle in the third and Lachlan Ziros kicked in well from full back in the last quarter.

Ben Noakes got tackled really hard to the ground in the last quarter resulting in a hit to the throat. We knew this would of hurt Ben but he bounced straight back up to take his kick. He then came off crying and we feared he was more seriously hurt. I later rang his mum and dad to see how he was and they told me he was fine and the only reason he was still crying was he thought he was going to start on the bench the following week ! It was a huge relief to know that Ben was ok.

Another great moment in the game was Dean Mastranico running straight at the ball, gathering it and bursting through a pack of about 8 players in the last quarter. These two acts just prove that this team never gives up, even though the game was nearly over. I am extremely proud of this team and their never say die attitudes. Oak Park ran out winners in the end to be deserving ladder leaders. This week’s game is at home against Maribyrnong Park at 9.45am.

Finally, I would like to thank Rocky and Cathy, one of the clubs great sponsors Melrose Pizza, for giving all the kids a pizza voucher last week.  Hopefully everyone can get down there and enjoy the best pizzas in town !

Best Players – Ben Noakes, Dean Mastranico, Stefan Sabitino, Max Atkinson, Darcy Broom and Deon Uren.
